In the southwestern part of town, near the embankment of river Sava there is lake Jarun - an oasis of peace surrounded by nature and metropolitan bustle. The former branch of the river basin is furnished for the Universiade 1987th , when the lake and the whole complex got its present appearance. On two Jarun Lake, Big and Small there are five islands connected by bridges, and aroundthem tehre is about 2500 meters of sandy beach. Special value of Jarun is untouched nature of the Wilderness island. There is a preserved natural marsh and pond communities, populated by land and water plants, with about one hundred species of birds and many colorful fish, aquatic animals and insects. Jarun with a total of 235 ha is appealing to all generations of visitors.
