Lavoslav (Leopold) Ruzicka (Vukovar, 13 September 1887th - Mammern, Switzerland, September 26, 1976). Winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and the first winner of the award from the Croatian. The holder of eight honorary doctorates (four in science, two in medicine, and one for the natural sciences and law). Ruzicka was born in Vukovar (at the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire).
