The upper city is abundant historical sites (Stone Gate, St. Mark's Church St. Catherine Lotrscak tower) and the legends and stories that live side by side with the present. The upper town also has its dark side. Specifically, here are supposed to be mid-18 century met a witch or "coprnjice". Many of them ecclesiastical inquisition condemned to death by the stake, and their list can be seen in the Zagreb City Museum. Encouraged by these historical facts, the writer Marija Juric Zagorka wrote a cycle of novels called "Gricka witch."
