ST. MARK'S SQUARE

St. Mark's Square is the center of the Upper Town and the main square of the former Gradec.

St. Mark's Square is the center of the Upper Town and the main square of the former Gradec. In the square center emphasizes the the parish church built in the 13th century. The church was rebuilt in the late 19th century and then emerges from the roof and crests of the Triune Kingdom of Croatian, Dalmatia and Slavonia and Zagreb. The square is the political center of Croatian. Specifically, here are the Governor's Palace, the seat of government, and the Croatian Parliament. From afar, the facade on the corner with Ćirilometodska street  events in the square watching Matt Gubec, leader of the Peasants' Revolt. He is on 15th February 1573rd years after the defeat in the battle against the nobles in Stubicke Spa, executed in Zagreb, and legend said that he was tortured in public at St. Mark's Square.
