Area of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is divided into three regions - the mountainous, coastal and island region - covering an area of 3,582 km2. According to the census of in 2001. year Primorje-Gorski Kotar County has a total population of 305,505 and according to share of 6.9%, is the fifth largest in the Republic of Croatia. Primorje-Gorski Kotar County encompasses 14 cities and 22 municipalities and 536 villages. The largest islands in the Kvarner bay are Krk, Cres, Losinj, Rab and Pag. In the Kvarner bay is the largest Croatian port Rijeka.
