Reading the record sea level, obtained by float-counterweight system. Tide is set in Bakar in 1929. and since then the instrument records the water levels in the same place today. Water level measurements were performed in other Adriatic towns, but only the mareographic station in Bakar held to date and this makes it the oldest on the Adriatic coast and one of the oldest in the Mediterranean. Based on the registration Bakar water levels were conducted numerous scientific studies at home and abroad, and the data is used for purposes other immediate practical application.
