He had s successful musical career mostly inspired by Dalmatian folklore, but also with famous Italian Canzona. In his rich singing and composing career he wrote over 200 songs and lyrics and recorded 23 albums that have sold in 2.5 million copies.
During the Homeland War in Croatia, Ivčić composed and sang a song in English, "Stop the War in Croatia". In 1990. He became a member of the Croatian Democratic Union.
