
CATHEDRAL OF ST. DUJE, SPLIT
Cathedral of St. Duje is known for many things, but what makes it really special is the fact that it contains the mausoleum of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, a pagan and a persecutor of Christians.
This cathedral contains pagan, Christian, medieval and modern heritage. Inside the cathedral many valuable religious objects are preserved. Bell tower is 57 m high and it is a trademark od Split. Its construction began in the 13th century. Stairs lead to the top of the tower which provides a unique view of the Diocletian Palace and city of Split.
Today the cathedral is important liturgical place. Every year in May here starts a famous procession on the day of St. Duje, a patron of the city.
