Zadar County covers a total surface area of 7276.23 km2 and is situated in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic coast. Zadar is territorially organized into 34 units of local government, and 6 cities. The city of Zadar is the administrative center of the county and the fifth largest city in Croatia. On the area of the entire county live about 162,045 inhabitants.
Specificity of the area is abundance of islands, canals, sea passages, deeply indented sea surface in the land, rugged coastline, fertile zone of Ravni Kotari and karst of hilly - mountainous area. In the county is located 200 islands, islets and reefs. The great diversity of the landscape of county; combination of mountains, valleys, seas and many islands makes Zadar County exceptionally attractive. The cultural heritage of Zadar and the region, from the earliest times to the recent past, is rich and very valuable. The cultural richness of the area dates back to ancient times, early Christian and Middle Ages, until recent times.
Many Zadar islands possess very valuable cultural and historical heritage. The most valuable is on the largest island of Pag, island of salt, cheese and lace. On the island of Pag is located Caska - on the west side of Pag bay. The the bay today has only a few houses, but on its seabed is a submerged town. According to historians, it is the Roman city that was due to the earthquake, sank in 4th century.
