
MATIJA SKURJENI
The famous Croatian naive painter. He completed an apprenticeship for painters, worked as a shepherd, miner and painter. During the First World War soldier in the Russian and Italian front.
His first paintings created 1924th year. In 1948 has its first exhibition. In retirement he went 1956th years and then be completely dedicated painting and 1957th began to cooperate with the Gallery of Primitive Art in Zagreb. Skurjenijev European success begins 1960th , when exhibited in the gallery La Nuova Pesa in Rome. Two years later the first solo exhibition in Paris, where he met André Breton and other Surrealists. Part of paintings, drawings and prints donated in 1984 the Municipal Assembly as the foundation of FC Gallery Matt Skurjeni. The gallery was opened three years later, 1987. year, in the restored depot for berries in the New Palace in Zapresic. Gallery 2000th was transformed into the Museum Matthias Skurjeni with a permanent exhibit that includes Skurjenijev entire oeuvre: paintings, oil paintings, drawings and prints.
