JOSIP JURAJ STROSSMAYER

J.J. Strossmayer turned Djakovo into a widely known and unavoidable place.

Strossmayer (Osijek, February 4, 1815th - Djakovo, May 8, 1905.), bishop of Djakovo, Bosnia and Syrmia (since 1849)., Theologian, politician, cultural worker (founder of Central Croatian scientific and cultural institutions) and writer , one of the most important and influential Croatian personalities  in 19th century.
During his episcopate one of the most beautiful Croatian Catholic churches was built.
