Born in 1929. in Slatina.
He attended secondary school in Karlovac County and Osijek. Croatian Studies and Germanic Studies (slavic) graduated from the University of Zagreb, and germanistiku musicology and studied in Göttingen.
Doctorate earned in the year 1959, and since 1971. until his retirement in 1999 Full Professor of German Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Occasionally, a guest at foreign universities. Since 2002. is professor emeritus at the University of Zagreb.
Corresponding member of the Academy, Foreign Member of Academy in Leipzig, Saxony and a member of scientific societies, Academia Europaea in London.
