Croatian Josip Jelacic was governor whose name symbolizes the aspirations of the Croatian people for autonomy and independence from imperial conquerors.

After a turbulent life spent in fighting for the Croatian national interests was buried in 1859. in the Chapel. Joseph Zapresic. Therefore Zaprešić on the day of the city is also celebrating the life and work of this great man of our history. The event, which in May marks the anniversary of his death, and in October the birth anniversary of Ban Josip Jelacic Square held a series of cultural, sporting and entertainment events with a traditional trade fair. Visitors can tour the New Jelačić Palace as a valuable example of conservation of cultural and historical heritage.
