OLD TOWN RIBNIK

Old Town Ribnik is an extraordinary, one of the oldest and most interesting cities.

This is the "water" burg with important trading and strategic road, submerged in a small valley, once a deep ditch surrounding solid walls, backfilled when more of their function is not needed. The record from 1558, states that there is no pond, a mill that grinds the city embankment for heavy rains. Only the name of the city says the city is surrounded by ponds for defense. It is characteristic for the toponymy of all our towns on the Croatian soil that usually relies on the nature of the characteristics of the environment, the method of construction and purpose, or the name of the individual or the tribe. Water is in Ribnik reached to the walls, on all sides, without the express napadajne hand, the enemy has nowhere to have a foothold when they arrived and the city.
