The fear of the Turks in the 15th century tower to land further strengthened. Among them is this pentagonal tower. According to the "enemy" is oriented to its tapered angle which reduced the possibility of the defense, on the other hand allow slippage of any "hits" along its sides. It was built in the 1447. , during the podesta Nicolò Lion. At the top of the tower is the Venetian winged lion with an open book (more about lions here), while underneath the coat of arms and the initials of the family Lion. Instead of the usual inscription in the book that has the lion "PAX TIBI Marco Evangelista MEUS" in this book is written, "Be fair and give peace to your town," from the Gospel of St. Mark. Such strong towers are actually "tower in the tower." Because of their reinforcements were built so that the outer wall of stone on the inside of the tower also has such a wall, but smaller, and the cavity between them filled with small stones and earth.
