SAINT PETER IN THE FOREST
Legend says that the in the St. Peter in the Forest stayed Hungarian King Solomon after the dynastic struggles ousted from the throne.
Sv. Peter in the Forest was named after the Benedictine monastery which is called in Latin documents Monasterium Sancti Petri in Sylvis - Monastery of St. Peter in the Woods. The monastery was first mentioned in documents 1174th with a vague remark that exists fifty years old, but it certainly existed before the 1124th. Legend says that the in the St. Peter in the Forest stayed Hungarian King Solomon after the dynastic struggles ousted from the throne. Later he moved to St. Michael's on the hills near Pula, where he died in 1089th. Unlike other places where the Istrian village formed on hills: at the height there is the church and along the edges of the hills are dotted houses, here or around the church or monastery there were no houses, to preserve the peace of the monks. People of St. Peter in the Forest lived nearby villages working the fields and vineyards. Above Draga till 15 century there was a fortified castle Ad Vicinatum (perhaps Vižinada), of which nothing remained except toponyms St. Thomas, the church that no longer exists.
