
TOPUSKO - ROMAN SETTLEMENT "AD FINES"
A few key notes on this little town, famous for its thermal springs and spas.
Topusko gentle hilly landscape surrounding lush vegetation rich in small rivers and streams around which lie the fertile lowlands and in mountainous regions abundance of large forests and substantial mineral deposits which include the medicinal and thermal springs in Topusko. In ancient times the city was a Roman settlement Ad Fines or Quadrata. Migration of Croats place named Spa, and only later takes the name wrong transcriptions Topusko.
Thermal springs which abounds Topusko probably the last remnants of Tertiary volcanic eruption about 50 million years. In the mid 19th Topusko century became one of the most famous sanatoriums Austro-Hungarian Empire, where King Francis I stayed with Queen Caroline, Maximilian Vrhovec, Janko Draskovic, Josip Jelacic and Sofia ... and many others.
Topusko is one of the major ancient sites in Croatia. On Nikolino hill fort was a large settlement of domestic Kolapljana. A number of remains testify to the turbulent history of this region. One of the most outstanding historical monuments is surely - the rest of the Cistercian abbey, the oldest Gothic church in Croatia.
