
WHY DID MICHELANGELO VISITED PULA?
Michelangelo Buonarotti stayed in the Pula, but this is no written documents, but there is something much more credible - a drawing Triumphal Arch, which is now in the museum Wicar in Lille.
The most prominent names of the Italian Renaissance, architects, painters, artists and archaeologists 15th and 16 century came to document, draw, paint, copy, or learn to describe the ancient monuments of this city. And the famous Michelangelo Buonarotti was in Pula. This is no written documents, but there is something much more credible - a drawing Triumphal Arch, which is now in the museum Wicar in Lille. It is difficult to determine the time and the real reason Michelangelo's arrival in Pula, but to assume that they occurred between the 1513th and 1516th when working on the master drawing and modeling of the facade of the basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, the project made by order of Pope Leo X, but never realized, or the famous Medici Chapel in which Michelangelo worked from 1520th the 1534th year.
