CROATIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts has organized over a hundred scientific conferences in which they evaluated the works deserving of Croatian people during its entire history.
Bishop Strossmayer gave the initiative for the construction of the Academy of the Zrinjevac in which to situate his gallery. Construction of the palace began in August 1877th, and completed in the summer 1880th, in the style of the Florentine Renaissance by Strossmeyer desired. He gave a quarter of the total amount for the construction of the palace. Four years later, the Academy received under its new roof and the greatest gift of his patrons: 256 works of art, primarily painting (235), which mainly belong to different schools of Italian painting.
