
FIVE WELLS SQUARE IN ZADAR
In front of the Captain's Tower and the city wall until 16 century a deep moat was located. Today it is the Square of Five Wells, one of the numerous and highly visited tourist attractions that enrich the value of Zadar.
After the threat of Turkish attack became certain, in this place, built a protective wall. Long-term siege forced the builders to plan and to make large amounts of drinking water. Using the existing Moat, built a large cistern with five wreaths. Today it is a square with five wells. Has been partly preserved aqueduct that brought water directly from Lake Vrana.
Disappearance of the threat of war in the first half of the 19th century, the Austrian commander, General Welden on embankments bastion edit Grimani gave the first public park in Dalmatia. Today the park is a five-well water restored cornices and a most picturesque area of Zadar.
