National museum Zadar was founded in 1832. it contains more than 80 000 museum objects. It provides unique cultural-touristic and educational experience to their visitors and also offers them sequence of interested contents through different museum sections: Natural department with exhibitions of natural objects, City Sentinel with Ethnological department and rich ethnological collection, Art gallery with rich holdings and exhibition activity, Museum of Zadar with their permanent exhibition, City lodge with always current exhibitions and Rector′s palace from XIII century, with their attractive and rewarded exhibition „cages“ and Maritime collection. Among this departments National museum Zadar also has two dislocated objects: regional Ethnographic collection Veli Iž and regional Cultural-historical collection Mali Iž.

Exhibition „Fairytale lace of Russia is a story of Vologda′s bobbin lace, most famous lace of Russia that has national cultural heritage status. Exhibition of Museum of lace from Vologda is a guest in National museum in Zadar from June 03th until August 31st. Among exhibits from collection from Vologda′s state museum holdings along the boards of lace, there are also clothing (dresses, blouses, scarves, evening cloak), decorative covers and tablecloths. Samples have been done by templates of famous painters with which is created atmosphere of magical lace fairytale. Exhibition „Fairytale lace of Russia“ will surprise visitors with their diversity of presented motives in which are visualization of imaginative birds and flowers, fairytale boyars houses and temples the most important elements of composition. For Vologda’s lace, big dimensions of exhibits are characteristic and they would not leave any visitor indifferent.

Located on main city square, in ambiental space of City Sentinel from 16th century, Ethnological department provides unique opportunity to their visitors for revealing all forms of traditional rural life of Northern Dalmatia. The most numerous and most attractive exhibits are those of traditional costumes and jewelry. Exposed costumes are often decorated with embroidered motive that is characteristic for Northern Dalmatia, so called četverokuka.

During July and August visitors will have opportunity to see exhibition of Edo Murtić. Exhibition of Edo Murtić in Zadar represents two creative pole of Croatian greatest painter of other half of 20th century. Reduced retrospective in City lodge with the greatest paintings from all phases of his work indicates on all stile diversity of hedonistic colorist of his variation on abstract expressionism, while macabrists drawings in Rector’s palace represents recently discovered figurative cycle packed with strong felling of existential anxiety and with presentiment of war. With that Murtić′s opus ends all stylistic and civilization features of epoch marked by his strong personality

Natural department of National museum Zadar in cooperation with company „Reptiles nest“ organizes exhibition of live snakes „Snakes – dangerous beauty“ from May 20th until August 31st. Exhibition will be situated in exhibition halls of Natural department on address Medulićeva 2, Zadar. There will be some of most dangerous exotic, toxic and non toxic snakes situated in terrarium. Among this exhibition there is also organized exhibition of children’s work on the same subject and it will be exposed in atrium of Rector’s palace from May 22nd until June 15th.
RECTOR′S PALACE

During the May in Rector’s palace visitors will have opportunity to see exhibition of Adin and Mia Hebib. Adin Hebib is an academic painter born in 1955 in Mostar. He specialized expressionism in Paris in class of professor Boris Cikalovski 1983-1985. His famous work in paintings and graphic work contains stenography, posters, illustration of books and monograph. Adin Hebib is a winner of many European awards for graphic design and number of other expert awards. He has been organized more than 40 independent exhibitions in his country and abroad, and his work is well known and kept all over the world.
Mia Hebib is graduate jewelry designer. She is cooperating with famous fashion houses Liz Clairborne, Henri Bendel, Tory Burch and BCB Generation. Her work has been promoted on many exhibitions in Europe, America and Asia.
Through July and August, in Rector’s palace, visitors will have opportunity to see exhibition of Edo Murtić that has been continued from City Lodge, and exhibition of most famous Croatian designers.
During the summer, in atrium of Rector’s palace and on a square in front of it there will be a numbers of events. We can single out from them event Folklore Festival of Zadar’s County 2014., where You can see cultural and artistic association performing origin or chorographical musical and dance expression that is characteristic for this area. Within this Festival there would be also organized workshop about traditional dancing round and dance, and workshop of traditional children’s play. This year Festival will be increased by producers of traditional object and they will perform their work.
GIFT SHOP
Situated in ground floor at City Sentinel on National Square, museum library and gift shop are designed with the aim of providing better access on publication work of National museum Zadar to our visitors. Among our own publications (memoir, catalog, leaflet, etc.) in Croatian and many other languages, we also provide publications of touring exhibition and publications in which Nation museum is co-editor. In library and in gift shop there is opportunity to buy postcards, magnets, pendants, bags of lavender, puzzles, reproductions of artwork and many other souvenirs with motive of museum exhibits from all department of National museum Zadar which provides insight in rich nature, cultural and artistic heritage of Zadar and Zadar’s County.
