The construction of the nursing home has initiated a doctor, journalist and writer Milivoj Dežman. The construction was inspired by the doctor's love for Zagreb's beauty and actress Ljerka Sram, who suffered from tuberculosis and died at the hands of Dežman Brestovac. Sanatorium was opened May 22, 1909, and closed and abandoned in 1968. Today Brestovac, although in ruins (and however beautiful and mysterious), enticing visitors for one of Zagreb's beautiful love story.
