
ROMAN FORUM - THE TOWN SQUARE IN THE CENTER OF ZADAR
A beautiful square in the center of Zadar, the largest space of its kind on the east side of the Adriatic.
The founder of the forum was the first Roman Emperor Augustine witnessed two stone inscriptions from the 3rd century when the construction is completed. It covers an area of 90x45 m. He was imprisoned under porches with galleries on the first floor and the porch were lined shops and handicraft shops. Today the only surviving original pavement and stairs, and two decorative monumental pillar of which is the original location. Formerly he served as a pillar of shame chains as evidenced from this period.
The reconstructed part of the Capitol in the floor of the forum found the remains of an altar on which the deposits were the rites of blood sacrifice burnt. And today is the starting point palnimetrije city.
