Ideas for weekend

Park St. Jakov incurred during the period from 1845. to 1860. Friedrich Julius Schüler, Managing Director of Southern Railway began construction of the villas and hotels in Opatija and Lovran, and was responsible for the unique Lungomare and parks.
Southern Railway Company engaged Carl Schubert, director of Vienna's Imperial-Royal Society for the construction of parks,
this horticultural Monument covers an area of 3.64 hectares and is divided into 60 fields with 150 plant species. There are many plants that were brought from the Far East, South America, Australia and other parts of the world. Among the many interesting plants in the park is the Japanese camellia (Camellia japonica), which eventually became a recognizable symbol of Opatija.
Today the park retained its original architecture, but some changes are made by construction of Summer Stage and the disappearance of the old swimming area. Parts of the park were built in the style of an English park with winding paths, but also in the French style, with floral ground space that changes according to seasons.
This central park in Opatija has received and retained the status of one of the most beautiful parks in Croatia.
