MUSEUM IN FRANCISCIAN MONASTERY, DUBROVNIK

The first document of the Franciscans in Dubrovnik dates from the 1235th years and points to their monastery of St. Pile it in a suburb which was demolished during the proclamation of war with the Serbian King Uros II. Milutin 1317th when it is probably built in the city today (with the door of Pila).

The monastery was rebuilt in the XVII century library and seminary theologians 1896th, and the baroque church after the earthquake 6th travnja 1667th.

The monastery is one of the largest and most monumental of the Franciscan monastery. There are two cloisters: the upper (Renaissance, semi-circular cross vaults and arches) and lower (Romanesque-Gothic, ornamented trap hexastyles, rosettes and capitals of various forms: geometric, plant, human and animal) with cross vaults and the walkway above. Mihoje Brajkov from Bar (first half. XIII.st.) has built this cloister, is one of the best Romanesque and Gothic works in us.

There are 120 columns and 12 massive pilasters. Being taken in 1860. frescoes from the life of St. Francis. On the wall of the cloister is the sarcophagus of M. Gučetić XIV. century with reliefs, and in the middle of the cloister promenade, a fountain with the figure of St. Francis. In one part of the Franciscan monastery is the inventory of the old Franciscan Friars Minor Pharmacy from the 1317th year. Very well preserved furniture is from the 16 pharmacies century, and vases from Siena and Florence and dated in the 15th and 16 c There are a variety of presses, Mortari and apparatus for distillation of water from the 14 century manuscripts as well as recipes for the Preparation of drugs, precision scales, scoops and more.  The Museum library is more valuable pieces are manuscripts and bark, valuable paintings and unknown masters, relics of St. head. Ursula from the 14th century and ex vuoto jewelry collection.
