
ROMAN VILLA IN VERIGE BAY, NATIONAL PARK BRUJUNI
On the west bank of the Brijuni islands, along the Gulf Verige, there are the remains of luxurious Roman country villa.
On the west bank of the Brijuni islands, along the Gulf Verige, there are the remains of luxurious Roman country villa. The construction of villas began in the first century BC, and reached the highest peak in the first century after Christ. Some parts of the villa were used to 6 century consisted of several buildings for various purposes are located at carefully selected locations in various parts of the bay. On the south side of the bay was located luxury villa residential-economic character with two peristyle. An integral part of the complex were placed in the bottom of the bay - temples of the Sea God Neptune, the Capitoline Triad, and the goddess of love and beaut,y Venus. Diet, palestra, spa, pond and farm buildings were located on the north side of the bay. All buildings have an interesting system of open and closed paths, which have provided a kilometer along the sea, were combined into one piece, ideally matched with the landscape. On the seaward side of this is accompanied by a whole coast was built of large stone blocks, which today is about 1 m below sea level. Regulate the access port chain (chains) that linked the opposite coast, according to which the bay was named. In addition to these mosaics, frescoes, stucco, and precious marbles luxurious villas on the Brijuni Islands there are a number of Roman villas where the prevailing economic character, and among them is the villa on the hill called Kolci.
