
SMALL VILLAGE FRATA NEAR TAR
The name comes from Latin fract, which means a place on a hill overgrown with bushes.
South of Tar there is s small village Frata. The name comes from the Latin fract, which means a place on a hill overgrown with bushes. Today is spatially merged to Tar, as a consequence of the expansive spread of settlements in the last two decades. Like Tar, Frata developed around a prehistoric ruins, which can be seen - numerous objects of material culture found in archaeological excavations.
In the ancient period it was an imperial possession, as witnessed by epigraphic monuments found in Valletta, and in the 10th century became the bishop's estate follows the fate of the nearby Tar.
