In our „konoba“ restaurant we offer traditional regional delicacies such as „Čripnja“ (roast meat or fish and potatoes cooked in a cast iron pot on an open hearth fire). You are warmly invited to the „Casa Romantica Parenzana“. Situated in a rural area of Istria just 10 km from the sea, it is a peaceful oasis for relaxation and an ideal starting point for daily exploration of this beautiful area.
The family owned „Casa Romantica Parenzana“ is located on the „Parenzana“ an old disused Austro Hungarian railway line which once connected Trieste with Poreč. The old railway is currently under restoration as a bike trail and passes through three countries (Italy, Slovenia and Croatia).
Our location is ideal for exploring both the popular coastal resorts as well as the picturesque inland heart of Istria with its historical hilltop towns of Motovun and Grožnjan.
At „Casa Romantica Parenzana“ we offer a variety packages tailored to all tastes and requirements. For the Gurmet, visits can be arranged to the best wine cellars and restaurants in the region. For cyclists, hikers and the artist special tours can be organised to suit your needs.
CUISINE & WINE
Istrian changeful and exciting history also influenced its gastronomy. Every nation which has been here left a part of its culture and customs–this is why Istrian cuisine today is a blend of different historical and cultural influences, the strongest among them are Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and, of course, Croatian. Prevailing life style is Mediterranean.
The Parenzana team follows this tradition: the food is cooked on an open heart fire: veal, lamb, goat meat with potatoes and vegetables, ombolo (loin), Istrian sausages, beefsteaks, etc. with the special attention to the seasonal delicacies such as truffles, asparagus and wild mushrooms.
We are baking our own bread and making our own pasta (fuži, njoki, pljukanci) which are served with truffles, mushrooms, pršut (homemade dried ham) panceta (Istrian bacon), pine nuts, venison, chicken and beef goulash.
Alll these meals are off course accompanied by the best istrian wines, from the Croatian and from the Slowenian part of Istria.
We are also organizing group meals, family meals, weddings, thematic evenings and happenings.
Basic cooking course of Istrian cuisine in La Parenzana
The owners of Casa romantica la Parenzana, small hotel named after the narrow gauge railway Parenzana connecting Istrias inland at the begin of 20 century (today bike and hiking trail), invite you to attend a cooking course in Istria.
Our cooking course will start with a visit to one of the best olive oil producers in Istria. We will taste different sort of virgin olive oil and learn about them. Our olive oil producer will give us some tips for everyday use. In the evening our chef Marija Štimec will prepare a rustic istrian dinner on the open fireplace.
On Saturday, after abundant buffet breakfast, we will learn the basics of the istrian cuisine. Early risers are welcome join the landlord and do the groceries on the local green market. Together we will prepare a 4 course typical istrian meal. The landlord will join us at table to enjoy everything that we have prepared.
In the afternoon we will promenade near the see, or just enjoy a cappuccino in one of the numerous Cafes in Novigrad. After that we will visit a famous vintner and taste the typical sorts of Istrian wine.
In the evening our chef will prepare a light fish dinner. Our landlord will suggest the right choice of wine.
